Personal Bio

Hi everyone! I did my B. Tech degree in Computer Science from Shizuoka University in Japan in 2019 with a focus on applied machine learning in cybersecurity using Computer Vision and NLP techniques. Next, I completed my Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Northwestern University in 2023 with a focus on applied machine learning in materials informatics and cheminformatics. Right now I am doing my postdoc at Cancer Research Institute and Institute of Integrative Genomics with a focus on applied machine learning in bioinformatics. I love scuba diving and am learning how to fly a plane. I am also into traveling, gaming, reading, etc. so basically I like to learn new things now and then.

I am proficient in Japanese (I was born in India but spent more than half of my life in Japan). I am also a rescue diver

Research Pitch

My Ph.D. dissertation focused on advancing the underpinnings of materials science by harnessing and designing data-driven approaches and computational tools using data science techniques, with a focus on noisy and scarce scientific datasets. During my postdoc, I have shifted my research focus to the biological sciences —specifically, metabolomics where my research aims to develop AI technologies to discover unknown small molecules in metabolomic datasets.
The human body encounters new small molecules daily, many of which influence pharmacotherapy responses and serve as clinical biomarkers. Despite mass spectrometry (MS)-based metabolomics detecting thousands of molecules, over 90% of these molecules remain unidentified, termed the chemical "dark matter" of the metabolome. This gap limits our understanding of the natural world, and to bridge it, I aim to develop AI technologies to enable high-throughput discovery of unknown metabolites using MS.
