Personal Bio

I studied computer science as an undergraduate at UCLA and conducted bioinformatics research since my freshman year. My research mainly focused on single-cell RNA sequencing analysis and methods development, especially for gene regulatory networks and computational approaches to study neuroscience. In my free time, I enjoy practicing piano as I pursue learning all of Chopin's Etudes (Op. 10 and Op. 25).

Fun Fact

My favorite piece to play is Chopin's "Winter Wind" Etude in A minor, Op. 25 No. 11.

Research Pitch

I am a PhD student in neuroscience, but my background is in computer science. At the Krienen Lab, my research focuses on cross-species comparisons of human and mammalian brains through a variety of computational approaches. Some may claim that there are three kinds of research: https://www.xkcd.com/2977/. Our research is the third type, as we try to create an atlas of every brain cell using their molecular genomic profiles. Through various animal models, we ultimately hope to learn more about the human brain and to investigate neurodegenerative diseases. With high-throughput datasets with millions of samples, there is a pressing need to design novel computational methods and develop comprehensive brain cell type atlases.
